It DIIIIIIIEEESSSSSS......

oh man, I feel bad breaking this news to you, my adoring public... but it's dead. My ipod is no more. After a day of triumphant feelings, I came back to find my ipod screen black. It flickered back to life a few times when we plugged it back into the computer, but now it's just as dead as... well, it's... it's just dead.
Sigh... sorry everyone.
Heyyy, I haven't tried that alcohol treatment yet...!

it LIIIIIIIIVESSSSS!!!!!!! (two new posts)

My hero plugged it in last night, and saw the faintest of apples... then the screen said "please wait, very low battery..." so we left it plugged in and then saw "do not disconnect"- very hopeful!!! I opened Itunes and... okay maybe you're not interested in the myriad steps taken here but the point is, it WORKS again!!!! Hurrahhhhhh!!!!!

Sad Ipod, Sad Me

It's true...

My ipod is dead. And it died in the most undignified manner. I was at work, listening to "Weekend America" and doing some cleaning in the convent. I went to wash my hands at the kitchen sink, and cranked on the faucet. Someone- a jokester, a prankser, a hijinxter... taped down the spray nozzle at said sink, and I and my ipod got drenched.
I did the research, as I am wont to do, and found lots of hints about how to revive it. They said leave it upright next to a radiator, dry it with a hairdryer, push the buttons in a particular way to reset it, let it dry for two days and then plug it in... so I did, and now... sad mac.
Sad me!!!!
The only thing left to try is to submerge it in alcohol for an hour, shake it off, submerge it for two more hours, let it try, and see what happens. I suppose at this point, I don't have anything to lose. We shall see.

I get my ipod!

So, I got a free ipod nano back in the Summer with my laptop. In some kind of stockroom-clearing plan from apple, they were giving away the ipods, along with copier/printer/scanners for free when one bought a computer. I didn't necessarily want an ipod. I couldn't see myself sitting around with earphones in my ears, listening to music. And, I don't jog.
But I get it now!! I LOVE my ipod! I found PODCASTS....
Okay, I'm not completely oblivious, I knew about podcasts. But here's the thing: all my favorite NPR shows are available via podcast. That means I can download all the ones I don't get to listen to over the weekend (when all the good shows are) and listen to them Saturday, while I'm doing yardwork and/or laundry (I used to carry around a little transistor radio so I could hear my shows) and Sundays at work (I used to have to listen to New Hampshire Public Radio, including cartalk for the 4th time each weekend, and the Splendid Table)and my ipod sits in a very cool case with a carabeener that hooks it onto my beltloop.
Tonight I listened to Radiolab, a VERY fascinating show about the language of music. You can hear it too, at http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/ Very cool on an ipod.
